If recent news is correct, it seems there is a mass effort underway to introduce all of society to the idea of aliens and extraterrestrials visiting our planet and communicating with the “powers that be.”

What was once considered a belief held by only “fringe” groups and fantasy in the media has now entered the mainstream.

How? Well, just last week, the United Nations created a formal position for a space ambassador. The “take me to your leader” ambassador is Malzan Othaman, a Malaysian astrophysicist and new Head of the UN Office for Out of Space Affairs (UNOOSA).

In a recent talk before fellow scientists, Othman stated, “The continued search for extraterrestrial communication by several entities sustains the hope that some day humankind will receive signals from extraterrestrials. When we do we should have in place a coordinated response that takes into account all sensitivities related to the subject. The UN is a ready made mechanism for such coordination.”

Am I missing something here? Apparently the UN and Othaman know something we don’t! Is it possible we’re already receiving signals on earth, and this is just a polite way to introduce the topic to the population?

Otherwise it seems to me that the UN is paying a salary for someone to just sit around and essentially get paid for nothing…Oops, I mean wait until contact is made.  There’s plenty of American unemployed who could use that job!

But really, if aliens exist and visit us on a regular basis, shouldn’t we have someone representing us that knows a little bit about interpersonal relations, psychology, diplomacy and bridge building between cultures? Not to say that a scientist can’t successfully make contact with E.T. but it’s concerning when only one person has such a responsibility for representing the whole world by welcoming & building relationship with potential alien visitors.

What do you make of this?  How do you feel about the UN speaking on behalf of all mankind to any aliens & extraterrestrials that visit earth?
